Being at Choffin has been a great experience. The equipment we use in the lab has helped me tremendously when being in clinical. The Sim Lab is amazing because it has technology needed to make it realistic that you are taking care of a “real” patient.

When I started school at Choffin in 2020 for dental assisting I was apprehensive about trying something new. I always knew that I wanted a career that was hands on. I learned very early on in my schooling that I was in good hands. The entire staff was understanding and dedicated to their teachings. I met many great people along the way, and got to experience every aspect of dentistry in all the clinical sites I was sent to. I am very grateful for the proper education and training I received. By the end of the program, I felt confident to start my career as a certified dental assistant. This is a very rewarding field that I wish was brought more recognition. I learned just how crucial the role of a dental assistant is to any office and the instructors helped me to step into the dental field properly trained and well informed.

I was a 2020 graduate of Choffin School of Surgical Technology. I had no idea what to expect going into the program but I instantly fell in love and thrived through the program. I loved going to clinicals and getting to be hands on in the real deal. Especially in Orthopedics which just so happens to be my favorite cases to scrub to this day. We were always so prepared to go into the OR. From knowing our instruments to knowing the anatomy for whatever specialty we were scrubbing at the time. The instructors were great at putting 2 and 2 together for us. We would learn about a specialty in class and then that’s what they would have us scrub at clinicals to make it all come together which for me made everything so much easier. And then there was Covid… Clinicals came to a halt so we had to turn to Case Studies which i hated at the time but am so thankful for now. When we were finally able to get back into the hospitals it was like getting to breathe again. Finally graduating a month late due to the pandemic was the best feeling. Especially receiving the Clinical Excellence Award (i didn’t see that coming) After graduating, i started my first job at a level 2 trauma center and loved every second of it but decided i wanted to be in a busier setting so i started traveling and it was the best decision i ever made. This career is one i never envisioned for myself but boy am I glad I ended up here. You don’t choose Surgical Technology, it chooses you.

The Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act (DFSCA)

The Drug Free Schools and Campuses Regulations (34 CFR Part 86) of the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act (DFSCA) requires an institution of higher education (IHE) such as Choffin Career and Technical Center Adult Education Programs to certify it has adopted and implemented programs to prevent the abuse of alcohol and use or distribution of illicit drugs both by students and employees both on its premises and as a part of any of its activities. At a minimum, each institution of higher education must annually distribute the following in writing to all students and employees: a) Standards of conduct, b) A description of the legal sanctions , c) a description of counseling services, and d) a statement of sanctions imposed for violation that include expulsion or termination.
